I slipped out for a little hunt after work last night.

I went to a 1950s house and hunted the yard. There had been a good bit of landscape work done there, and the pickings were meager at best. After about an hour and one wheatie and a little clad, I decided to hit another spot. The next spot was a small local park, not much there either.

With only about 25 minutes of light left, I hit an old house site, that I have hit before with some success, but no good coins, lots of zinc cents... I thought that someone had cherry picked all of the good stuff at the site... and left me about a bunch zincolns! I went to an undisturbed area with three large trees, that I have hit a couple of times before. Right off the bat, I get a wheatie...then a makeup tin... not bad... five more feet, nice high tone... out comes a '41 Merc... It was getting dark, but I was excited now... two more feet, high tone... second Merc, a 1944. Back to back Mercs! It was getting really dark now, so I headed out... not too bad for a 25 minute hunt.

YTD silvers #27 and #28.

Thanks for looking!

Perhaps you should consider just going for 1/2 hour hunts? Two very nice mercury dimes that will be perfect for your hat pins. Send them to me and I'll make them for you. Congrats on the silver!

Thanks Jay.

The '41 is really nice. Both came out of sandy soil, and had no tarnish whatsoever. A quick rub with baking soda, and they really shine. As for the hat pins, I have to get some test garden silver from Smittyman, I will try to get a nice Merc or two for hat pins during that transaction.

Again, I appreciate the leads, and the encouragement.

Nice silvers! I've found very few coins. Our sites must have been too poor to lose them!! Congrats

nice looking mercs, congrats on the double silver

Congrats on the Mercs. Unfortunately I'm on a 6 week silver slump.

Nice...my last double Merc find, a couple months ago..a 1944 and a 1940..and they were touching !! at about 4" down, I thought it was just one, until I picked it up and there were two!...BONUS...each one had a very clean side, the two sides that were against one another..great finds! great pics too! thx for sharing...ddf

Those are some fine Merc's!! Always makes the day when you find coins from the classic era of coin designs.
