Double looped thing - Lead Well Chain Fitting

I found this item today. It is the third identical one that I've found this year. The other two were found at a site across the road from the site I found this one.

Does it have a name?

This item is from a well pump--the "crank and chain" kind that drew water up using these lead fittings attached to the chain, and spaced out along the length of the chain.

Thanks Buckles :icon_thumleft: Now that you mention it - it does look like lead! :laughing7: I need to locate my other two to compare.

Happy to have an answer! Even my archaeology professor didn't have a good explanation.
