Double D coil?

can any one tell me what the difference is between a standard coil and a Double D Coil?
I am new to the hobby.

Not being the sharpest stick on this subject, but to give you a simple mans knowledge..here we go

A "standard" or concentric coil has a smaller coil inside a larger coil. The EM field is transmitted through
the larger coil and the smaller coil picks up the reflected signal from a metallic object.

A Double D Coil has a coil design that appears to be one D backwards and the other forwards, a transmitting signal travels through one coil and the other coil acts as a receiver. Then the 'receiver' coil become the transmitting coil, etc.

In my opinion I like the DD Coil for most hunting. I have a machine that has a 'standard' coil and use it for mostly clad hunting. The DD Coil has a faster response than the standard.

Hope this helps.

coils have different copper winding patterns.different coils either discriminate better, see less ground minerals, cover more ground, etc.a dd coil is wire wound in a side by side d pattern,
and has a centralised heel to toe detection field.different coil sizes, and shapes are for
different tasks that the user determines is best for there site.

I would add to Eagle's thoughts by saying that the Concentric coil is deeper at the bottom of its field, but the DD coils field is more like a wiper blade than the Concentric's V shape. DD coils are better in mineralized ground too.

A DD Coil sends a Signal into the ground
From the Front Center to the Back Center like a
Blade or Painbrush.

a Regular Mono Coil sends a signal almost like
an Upside down Funnel all the way around.

You get more Coverage per swing with less Lapping
of the coil needed with a DD Coil
