"Don't Tread On Me" medallion?

Posted this on another MD forum, but thought maybe someone here would know what this thing is or the age. It was found in a local park that was once a farm that dates back at least 100 years and maybe further than that. I neglected to include a coin in the pics for scale, but it measures about 2.75" in diameter.

It certainly looks old enough to be 1775/76. Can you see anywhere on the back where there could have been 2attachments? If so, it could be a rosette. Super neat find! :) Breezie

There is a slightly raised rectangle and small circle on the back. Possibly could have had something attached.

I sent a pic to the local historical society. Maybe they can shed some light on what this is.

Is it cast iron?

It's nonferrous so not iron. Beyond that I don't know what the metal is. It's quite heavy for its size.

Did a density check on it and it comes in right where lead should be (around 11 g/ml), so very possible it's lead.

MYSTERY SOLVED

It's just a cheap '70's belt buckle -->

Certainly not "solid brass" as mentioned in the ad, since solid brass doesn't turn into what I have in 40 years or less.

Oh well, not old, but I still like it and had fun researching it.
