Don't know what it is

I was detecting in the middle of nowhere (in a state forest) and hit a deep tone about 4-6 inches down. So I started digging and out popped this heavy hunk of iron (I think its iron). I'm guessing it might be some sort of a wedge for splitting lumber, but really that's just a guess. Any ideas?

It's about 6 inches long, and has significant weight to it.

That artifact is seen better days indeed! I think your right in it being some sort of logging wedge. Man i bet you had a fun time hauling that back to the truck ;)

how wide is it?

Sorry, I should have included actual measurements. It's 2.5 inches wide at the base (at the widest point), 3 inches tall, and 7 inches long.

Interesting Find! It looks like there is a buildup of rust that may distort what the actual shape is, but I may be wrong. Thanks for sharing.
