Hmmm... Bigger than I expected. Obviously it is a part of something and not designed for a specific use by itself. It looks like copper to me. Possibly part of an early electronic device... radio, antenna, hand crank phone, phonograph... Hard say when it is completely out of context like that.

The design of it makes me think that it originally was curved due to tension. If you notice it's made of one piece of metal and at it's bottom the ends (that look like on the whole piece when flat they have some space between them...) are riveted together like on some hair clips... That would explain why it's broken like that (that is if jman didn't break it accidentaly when finding it).

It reminds of part of an antique medical truss of some sort.

Ok Panache...

BCH to be honest on the first look I thought "woa, chastity belt part" but I was to timid to post this...
Interesting aspect. Can you dig up some pics?

I found the lower half of one of those before. Tossed it in the junk pile. Now I am curious to know what it is myself.

I dont know if I can dig up any pics. But the metal part of medical trusses have been found by TN members and posted here. Its a long shot guess and I may be way off but it kinda kinda looks familiar to some of them. We were able to ID them because of the patent dates stamped.
