Amusing little item, but not gold I’m afraid. It’s costume jewellery from the Jonette Jewelry Company of Providence, Rhode Island.

Founded in 1935 as the Providence Jewelry Company, and then becoming Lisker & Lisker Inc. They ceased production during WWII and restarted after the war ended as Jonette, using the ‘J.J.’ mark.

They’re best known for novelty jewellery, especially animal forms. The donkey brooch can be picked up for about $20 or less.

The company announced that it would be closing in September 2008 due to foreign competition and market conditions.
