Found this dog tag says 1918 on it but don't know if that is the date or just the number of the tag

I think it's the year. Looks like the license number is underneath.

Cool tag--too bad it's damaged. What does it say along the top? I see "PIKE ..."

Yeah I think it is really cool wish it was in better shape but still fun to find things with history like this. It says pike county across the top which is the area where I found it

Very nice! I have found a couple of dog tags, but none that old yet. The baggage check/tag I just found is old though (I think it's been relegated to page 2 now) and has that nice tie in to local history. Still in the process of researching it as it seems as though it might be a rare one. Interesting color on yours, none of that typical crud on it that we get here.....did you clean it?

I just got all of the mud off of it and had to bend it out it was folded in half when I found it

That a 1918 alright. I found one just like it the end of last year from Washington County
