Waterbury has been in business since 1812 but they still make this button today. 29282 - Waterbury Button

We would need to see the back to try and date it. If the backside was steel that rusted away, it would be mid 20th century.

You got it Cypress... All rusted away. I thought maybe it was a cap type button, where you would just clip it over the piece that was sewn fast...

It is certainly similar, but every detail, including the background of the previously posted button, is exact. Kinda like the car companies... Yeah, it's a dodge ram, but it's different than previous years.

If the button back has rusted away, its generally considered a thin steel back button from around the mid- 20th century. There were some tinned backs in the 1800s but they are thicker and last longer.
