Does your scrap yard do this?

would make sense.
Sort of like paying Migrant Workers
to do the dirty work.

Never heard of any scrap yard doing it though.

I would think IF I Walked around the scrap yard,
Loaded my Truck up &
tried to sell them their Scarp
They'd Put their Foot where it don't belong :D

& I Think OSHA would have a Field day if they
allowed Non Workers on the Piles :dontknow:

although the idea is good in theory.. gotta agree with Jeff on this one! Here in Ohio, you can buy things from the yard... hardhat needed to browse

More than OSHA, I think their liability insurance company would have a field day. With the illegals sorting, and getting paid in cash if one got hurt they'd probably say they were trespasing and stealing brass. The only thing close to that around here is they'll let me dig the piles for vintage motors & what nots. I buy from them. Can't beat antique briggs & Strattons & Tecumsehs by the pound. :icon_thumright:

Our scrap yard does not ever sell anything.

This is unfortunate though, considering how much brand new scrap comes in the door. He'll often give you a few things, but not sell them.

about 20 years ago I became friends of a scrap yard owner. He had some old junk cars from the 60s 70s that he let me look under the seats for old silver coins I did very good even found a few $5 bills

I will never forget in the 60s when i had a date and no money the neighbor let me look though and under seats in old junk cars in his back yard. I would always find enough silver change to take my girlfriend out to a movie and food. The cars were like a bunch of little banks. So if you have some old junk cars around look under the seats

Around here there are "You Pull" car Yards.
Last time I was at one I Left with a Pocket full of change.
Alot was on the front floors
probably from pockets of others crawling around removing
parts from under the Dash Boards.

As you leave you pay for the parts ,
But there were no signs saying how much Change Costs so :tongue3:

I Have always meant to go back & Make a day of it.

I found a nice pistol under the seat of a car in a scrap yard ........
On my way out I started thinking I wanted no part of a gun that I didn't know it's past history.

So I decided to turn it in........
I also decided I had better explain to the cashier what I was doing before taking it out of my pocket. :laughing7:

GG~

Dang! And I thought all the change & bulbs in the dash were a tip for pulling my own junk :icon_scratch:

One thing that goes through my mind if I go to Pick A Part is..... Do they search the cars for narcotics etc? Can just see pulling a door panel off and bricks of coke come rolling out.

You never know what you may find, I heard of someone finding a shoe with a foot still in it.

Had a friend that worked next to a junkyard for semis. Saw some pretty gruesome stuff there a couple of them I wouldn't be surprised if there weren't some kibbles & bits left inside. I don't care who you are, but that would just about make your day.

most of the older cars around here were crushed long ago... the newer ones though .. I will have to check them out next time I need to look for a part at the scrap yard

i work at one of the bigger scrap yards in the country, we never let anybody go through our piles we get everything back in our shredder

god, you would think there are always enough people standing around doing nothing that they would just pay those guys an hourly wage to go around and collect the loose stuff, there already getting paid for standing around, might as well get some work out of them.
