The buttplate is too straignt to be for an 1863, might be an 1842. The trigger and guard could be for any of the Civil War era rifle musket Springfields, 1855/1861/1863, they are all the same.

So, the butt plate is for a Springfield, just not the 1860s models. Thanks Cutler for the info, and thanks to everyone else for the smiles. ;D Breezie
