Does cold weather affect the Ace 350's electronics?

Has anyone ever heard of very cold weather affecting the metal detectors electronics? My readings started to act very erratic after I was out in the cold for 2 hours today. The weather was sunny and dry and temperature was at -12C or 8F. The readings and the signals were bouncing up and down the range. I would shut the unit off and restart it and again the same thing would happen. The unit is only 2 months old and I store it in my basement, hanging from a hook and my basement is very dry.

I've been home for about an hour now and just went down to check the unit. I turned it on and everything seems fine. What do you all think is going on here?

The cold is affecting the batteries where the voltage drops.

get a hand wormer pack at wal mart and tape it to your battery cover and wrap with a rag to keep them up to the correct voltage. Read John's post from edmonton he md's all year in the frozen north.

Probably the batteries. I have hunted here in Ohio in the winter with my 250 and kept my detector in the garage all winter before and never had any problems

Thanks very much CJH, I put in fresh Duracell's before I went out today too.
I think the suggestion that Sandman made makes the most sense, "The cold is affecting the batteries where the voltage drops."

The batteries are freezing. If you use litium batteries that should solve a lot of problems. They freeze at much lower temperatures than standard batteries.

Sandman is correct. The batteries are not putting out enough power because they are cold. You can remedy this by substituting your batteries with Energizer lithium batteries, which don't lose power in the cold, or putting a hot pac on your batteries as shown below.
