Does anyone save the old style bills?

It's a good idea, you can display them also like these that I have.

I imagine a lot of people tuck them aside because they're being withdrawn.

Usually, in such a situation, the banks are told to isolate them when they come across them and they are bundled together and burned at the Bureau, which means they get scarcer and scarcer all the time.

Eventually, they may actually be worth something more than face value plus the premium for condition, but don't really expect this to pay off for about 20 years or so. Naturally, the older they are, the more the value will climb.

Interesting thread. I never really realized just how rare the old bills have become, but come to think of it, it's been a long time since I got an old twenty. Are banks really told to pull the old bills? I think I'll start saving a few.

btw, nice pic, digginitup

Yes, I believe so. Not sure at what rate that they're keeping them but they're being weeded out of circulation. The new bills are more difficult to counterfeit.

When I cash in my coins from coin roll hunting, I usually ask for all the bills in ones. I got a 1985 $1 at my credit union that way. I mainly get 2003's with a few 2001's mixed in there.

When you see and old style bill, you def. want to keep it. Back in 1996 when they started printing the new style bills, I thought that it would be cool to save some. Not knowing that my collection would have gone so far, but looking back now over 10 years later it is really amazing to see how many types of bills our economy has gone through. One of the main things that started me in collecting was because I told that these bills, once taken to the bank, would shortly be shredded. So I thought that if I kept a bunch, then I would be one of the only people with a whole bunch of them, and then I could give them to my grandchildren, and then maybe it would help them out someday or something. I don't really know, I was only like, 8 years old. But now looking back at my old curriency, I have coolected about $2300.00 in old $5,10,20,50, and $100. After all these years though I am only about at $1900, but when you need money, sometimes you HAVE To spend it. Give or take the shape of each one. Plus, not only having a collection of old bills to show off, I also bought my dream car with $200 of my savings. It's alright though, because I bought a 1973 VW Karmann Ghia Coupe, and I only spent $5, $10 bills on it. Heres of picture of my car.

I'm not buying this story....I think you dug it out of your bottle dump... ;)

New colors, new size dimensions, greater asymmetry, etc.-----pretty soon our bills will look like Euros and Canadian. haha. Reading this thread has got me into saving the old bills. I don't see too many, but that just piques my interest more. At work the other day, a guy came in and bought all of our $1000 bills. I was sorry to see them go. I loved looking at those things.

1973 VW Karmann Ghia Coupe
nice car, by the way.
