What is a good depth chart!??

There are so many different settings and conditions. Some far east made are very well, but changing the location they?ll lose. Quality and service may even point. And how to check the depth? With rejecting an iron part...like a pair of pliers...repeatable sound (how loud) for comparison best medium would be air... but what about ground canceling/balance... ?? ...? :-\ :-[ :P

Whatever you?re doing, someone will cry FAKE... my is better and doing more depth... the xxx is too noisy in yyy conditions... ;)

so, please define your >GOOD<... :)

Merry Xmas

Ah, maybe I should just retract the question? :-[

I was thinking about some objective non-biased test on a buried object just to get a general idea of how the various brands compete.

But, like you're saying--this probably is never going to be. No matter what the maker of the chart said or did, he'd still be a lying dog with some. He'd probably just succeed in making a lot of enemies.

And one more thing--I don't believe most people really WANT to know how their detectors compete. It's sort of like those "faith healers" some religious groups have. Most have been proven fakes but the people go along with it because they want to believe in it.

I guess this was just a dumb question.

Oh well, I'm ordering my new machine for this year and I'm sick-n-tired of reading online reviews.

Now I can't wait for spring so I can get out and hunt.

I'll do the test if you all want to mail me your detectors... It may take a year to get it all done, so you'll have them back just in time for next winter. ;D

I'd really like to see something too. I suppose if it existed, it would probably be here: http://metaldetectorreviews.net/

I think all THers (or most) would like this but like has been stated it's a dream.

No one is going to be totally unbiased and there are loads of other variables.

I guess I'm really gullible but I thought maybe someone was doing a basic test (air or ground or both) of all the new machines without favoring the ones he wants to sell. Hello! welcome to the real world.

I guess I'm just major frustrated trying to make up my mind on which detector I'm going to buy.
A depth test would be nice if not slanted to please some company or whatever.

Asking detector questions on the various treasure forums can be helpful in some ways. However, I've found contradiction after contradiction. One person says a certain brand and model is awesome. Another person posts a negative appraisal of the same machine. After this happens with every brand and model over and over again one feels like a dog chasing his own tail.

I've decided to hang the questions and just buy what I think I want.? So, I've basically given up checking online and seeking advice.? ?If it turns out my new machine sucks I'll sell it, cut my loses, and try something else.? I mean life is short, right?

Tomorrow my order goes in the mail for better or for worse.

I hope i'm not too late! I saw a post about a coin being found at 24 inches give or take a couple of marks. :D

Oh, just my dumb dry humor.

This 24 inch thing was really discussed here and on another forum. On that other forum I got blasted for even bringing up the subject. I thought maybe you had been following all that.
