It seems if I sweep over a still frozen area of ground that I get some strong hits with my Garrett GTAx 500..........is this just a coincidence or do ice crystals give you a false hit? Maybe there really IS something under that ice and I should just mark it and come back when it thaws completely? Anyone else ever see this happen? Thanks!

I just made a post in another thread about several soil phenomena (link below). Frozen ground is saturated with water crystals, which are electrically organised. If the minerals in the ground are organised with the ice crystals (likely), then it's possible that a piece of frozen ground could be an efficient field conductor (more efficient than air or dry ground).

Well his answer is a heck of a lot better than mine was. :laughing7: Me, I'd wait for the thaw so I don't have to chisel through a ton of ice, end of 2 problems :icon_thumright: :tongue3:
