I believe this is brass. It about 15 inches long. Any info would be helpful.

How strange. A way to carry caught fish? Maybe had a wood handle?

Absolutely have no clue

that is a scale of some sort

usually used for cotton, tobacco, meat or whatever

Very interesting find! :icon_thumright:

Are there any markings on the piece of metal the hooks are attached to?

Cheers

Commonly referred to as ''steel-yard weight'' (scale/balance).

PS. Used since at least the Roman times, I find bits of Roman ones especially the lead weights.

It is a set of scales. My father had one about six feet long like that.

I did look there is a makers mark WHITMORE and 34 stamped in to the metal. Since the weight is marked 3 and the beam has measurement marks I take it it would weigh from 3 to 4 lbs. My most interesting find detecting to date.

After the above posts ,I'm going with the above.

Quick internet search and I'd say it looks "SOLVED" by Tpmetal and Crusader. Cool find!
