I live in Abilene, and know the area and it's stories well. I was in Tuscola one day with my father, and I pointed out one of the prominent hills. He told me it was called Double Eagle mountain. This made me interested because I know of another legend relating to double eagles.
It turned out the actual name of the hill is Bald Eagle mountain. I did some research on the hill, and I learned from the Texas Historical Association website that there is evidence of an old mine on one side of the hill. I know of many tales of old mines north of Taylor county, but this is the first time I have heard of one here.
If anyone has any info on the mine or the mountain, let me know
