Hi, I have a hills fairburn I would like to cut cabs out of but I have no idea how to or saws to cut with. And as I went blind in one eye this winter I am not going to buy any equipment to cut rocks. So is anyone out there that cuts cabs and how much does it cost. Or do you cut for a 50/50 split. I will include pictures of the agate I wanted cut into cabs. Thanks, Jim DSCF6728.JPGDSCF6729.JPGDSCF6730.JPGDSCF6731.JPGDSCF6732.JPG

Use to be able to cut a few shapes with our Dremel.. but sold the Dremel over the summer.. However as I've posted in another forum area.. I have three tumblers so if you can get someone just to cut them and a general size and shape I can let you borrow my tumbler to finish them.

Hi and thanks. I have two tumblers as I tumble and polish prairie and bubblegum agates to give away to the kids in my area. A friend of mine, Mickey, goes to the schools around this area and gives talks about rocks and rock hunting.

Hi Jim, I have a complete lapidary workshop and cut and polish cabs, but your piece looks like there are too many pits to make good cabs. The crystalline structure in the banding also looks "weak", like it would not be stable. Some fairburns cut and polish well, some don't. I don't use sealers or stabilizers, but perhaps someone who does could make some cabs for you. If you ever get any with more solid "agatizing" and better colors let me know.

Regards, Gene

Try finding a local lapidary club, see if they can help you.
