I don't remember...back when i first started detecting, silver was still pretty common in change. My first old piece of silver was an 1896-O Half dollar.
I posted recently about http://www.treasurenet.com/forums/today-s-finds/632853-first-silver-coin-equinox.html
But that wasn't the first silver with the detector.
The first silver was a matchbox holder - with the label from the matchbox still intact!

That's a really nice looking spoon.....congrats. I certainly do remember my first piece of silver. I dug a 1942 Mercury dime across the street from the high school I attended back in the 1960's. I found the dime with my new White's 6000di in 1984.
