Dear Equipment Dealers, Customers, fellow Prospectors, Miners, Prospecting and Mining Clubs, Organizations et al.
We are now faced with critical times due to Legislation put forth by special Interest groups. Millions of dollars are paid to Senators, Legislators and lawmakers to see that these groups and their agenda’s are forced on the will of people without proper representation.
Keene Engineering has been the leader in suction dredge and mining equipment for over 60 years. We know SB-670 is going to have a big impact on the economy of California as well as all of our dealers not located in California.
These special interest groups want to end mining and our freedoms to use our public lands. We all must stand up for our rights and ensure that our children have the same rights we have had. While many groups and organizations are slowly allowing our rights to be bargained away in negotiations, Public Lands for the People, and a few others, have remained steadfast in protecting our rights in this fight.
Here is the latest information regarding SB-670, Anti Suction Dredging Legislation.
As expected, the Bill passed the Assembly today in a vote of 63 to 11. The Bill must go back to the Senate to approve the amendments and there is 72 hours to do this. The Assembly wants the Bill effective immediately. Although canceling dredge permits retroactively would be against state law, we'll have to wait and see what they do. We do foresee that, at a minimum, they will stop issuing new permits. At the end of the day, if the state enacts a law that is in conflict with federal law allowing dredging, technically, the federal law takes priority and would cancel the state's law, again we would have to wait and see what they do.
The Governor must veto this Bill and PLP is in the process of filing a legal brief to prove the illegality of signing this Bill. However, keep in mind that if the Governor does not veto the Bill, the Legislature can still override the veto. This is why the Orange postcards are so critical and we need you to respond right away.
Orange postcards are in the mail to you now and are in essence your voice to be heard. Please do your part and return the cards immediately. If you need more cards please contact Patrick Keene at (818) 993-0441 or by email at pat@keeneeng. com
