I found this about 7 inches down on that 18th century farm. Any ideas? It's about 3 inches long and is very heavy. The round holes at the end are actually holes, just a lot of rust and crud in them right now.

Something attached behind a horse. Its a link pin (Loop).

It's called a Clevis and you can see a smaller version on say the safety chains on tow hitches for trailers etc. They're still made and look just like yours minus all the rust.
