Hi everybody !!

To be honest, I know exactly what is this... :)
But i don't know for sure, what was it used for. ???

So, if somebody knows for sure what was it used for, please let me know.

For those who don't know what is it....
Try to guess, but there is no prize for right answer, sorry.... ;D
It's 24 millimetres long (as shown on photo).

There is the prize !!!!
A photo of "how does it work" will be a prize. :D

Pozdrawiam Matejko

Pozdrawiam? Matejko

it is a Game and this is what is it all about.

The four letters which appear on the four corners of a dreidel alude to the miracle of Hanukkah. They spell out: Nes (N-miracle), Gadol (G-great), Haya (H-happened) and Sham (S-there, meaning in Israel).

To begin the game, each player should have about 20 Peppermint Candy Drops. Each person puts one piece of candy in the middle of the table. Then each person takes a turn at spinning the dreidel. When only one piece of candy or no candy is left in the middle each player adds another piece of candy. When a player has all the candy, that person wins!

For those of you who don't want to use candy for the game, we have also added "Points" to this game. You can grab a piece of paper and keep track of how many points you get! Who ever reaches 100 points first wins!

Thanks Morris !

Somebody told me that it's for a game. But someone else claimed that is for some sort of 'future telling".

Do you know anything about future telling by this Jewish 'machine'?

The prize !!! ;D

Just one thing does not fit...

If it was made only for kids to play, how come it has a religious symbol on it?
I think, if it was only a toy, there would not be a star on it....

???

Well... If You say so....

But I have a feeling that they are too religious to put the David's Star on a toy.
I might be wrong, it's only a feeling.

Yes it's a dreidel. It;s used in a verry popular game played at Chanukah by children. Players use pennies, nuts, raisins, or chocolate coins (gelt) as tokens or chips.
They spin the dreidel like a top and the hebrew letter that ends up on top tells the players what to do. The 4 letters are NUN ( sort of a backwards c)
GIMEL ( like an upside down y) HEY ( like an n) and SHIN (looks like a w) Example, if NUN is on top when the dreidel stops spinning, the player does nothing and the next player spins. Depending on the letter, the player might have to add to the pot or take part or all.
The 4 letters stand for "A Great Miracle Happened There !" signifing the miracle of the light at Chanukah.

I've just put my driedel into olive oil....
Maybe the letters on it will show. It's gonna take a few weeks, but I'll wait.
There is no hurry. ;D

Thanks for explanation, everybody.
