I was reading this web site today about the CW battle fought where I am MDing now. This 1830's house I am MDing at sits right in the middle of this battle area.

While reading it, I noticed this paragraph and especially the area in bold text:
"To attest to the fierceness of the fighting for the day, Kittinger recorded in his diary that his two gun section of the battery had expended at least 88 rounds of fuse shell, percussion, and case shot. Richard Moring, a slave on a near by plantation west of the town, recalled the sounds of he assault, "we could hyar de guns go boomin'" Residents of Morrisville had concealed themselves in cellars to avoid harm of the battle and hid all of the valuables in trees or in the ground. "
The owner of the house is the grand-daughter. Her grandfather built the house. When I first met her, she gave me some history of her family, the house, and the CW battle. Here's the kicker....she had mentioned that her grandmother hid their silver coins in the oak tree that USED TO BE in the front yard. Well the tree is no longer there, which got me wondering:
1) Where the $ ended up at?
and
2) Have any of the TN members ever found hidden money in a tree?
I know some folks have found CW bullets stuck in a tree, but how about hidden money?
