Gold and silver price movements are so highly correlated it really doesn't matter which one you own. Silver usually just a little more volatile. You could just purchase a previous metals ETF and own them all including plat, pall and rhod. Best if luck.

I'm all in at the moment in silver, i'm wondering if it would be a good idea to buy gold to help diversify my portefolio. I was thinking of buying my first ounce but all that money in a single coin vs buying like 50+ ounce of silver for the same price, i'm wondering if it's worth it having just a little bit of gold. What do you guys think ?

Kaynos,

I think you are doing the right thing. Nothing wrong with diversifying your PM exposure. Many of us think silver will rise more than gold on a percentage basis, but who really knows for sure? Gold is always more stable than silver price wise. I think a good split is 70/30 silver to gold if you are a real silver bull, otherwise 50/50.

For me, they silver is away under priced against gold and it should be about 15-1 ratio but it's a lot higher now. So I'm stacking all silver because I'm a believer that the ratio is going to close and when it does, That's when I'll sell some silver and stack my gold.
Right now in lots of people's eyes silver is going to catch up with gold and is the best buy at the moment. IMO Charlie

If you buy gold for an investment holding, I'd suggest you avoid the popular fancy gold coins with all the pretty engraving, and large premiums. Go for the plain and ugly. An oz of gold is still an oz no matter what it looks like. Same goes for Silver. Plain and ugly. Bars preferred with a recognized name and .999 stamp. Or, you could set up an account with a "LOCAL" broker you trust, and buy and sell Gold with the 10 and 20 dollar dips. Further tip, don't listen to the Broker. If he, or she won't go along with your constant buying and selling, get another Broker. Never understood why Brokers don't want the many small commissions. It all adds up.

I have always felt this way too, but one thing to consider is what may be true down the road. I believe that as silver does finally go up in value some day, there will be more and more counterfeits of silver and gold bullion. Good generic .999 silver is fine and I have a bunch, but for all my future silver buys I am sticking to either Eagles (when I can get them relatively cheap) and old US 90% that is not too worn. I believe these items will be the least likely to see large counterfeiting (with the exception of BU silver dollars which I never buy anyway) down the road and may be more in demand when it comes time to sell.

As far as gold, I only buy gold that has been minted by a government, either modern or old--never generic. That way you always know what your coin should weigh and measure out to, you have familiarity with how the coin should look, etc.

I have seen pictures online of fake gold bars from china that are one oz. size, and they looked perfect. Fake gold bars are easier to make using tungsten than coins, especially those coins with intricate detailed art work in the one oz or smaller sizes.

I've bought a few early US gold pieces in the last year or two, when I can get them close to melt from my dealer, including nice slabbed examples. I have also bought a few newer US large gold. I like to stack but I'm also a collector.
