Whites uses a trigger pinpoint on most of their units. The Prizms have a thumb button on the panel to pinpoint. Much like the Garrett's

For more exact info on the Pinpoint on the Whites detectors, you should view the field tests that describe how it works.

What Khouse and Sandman say is good information.
You could also go to the whites home page and download the
user manual for the Whites machines you may be interested in.
The manuals will go over all the features and basic operation.

Re: Do whites unit's pinpoint?

On the XLT and DFX, you can actually go more IN-Depth on the Sensitivity of the pinpointing to fine tune it. In case you guys didn't know, the DC-Sensitivity is for the All-Metal and Pinpointing modes. The closer you can get to the envelope of stability, the shorter in diameter your holes will get :)

On the 2 machines, when you are in All Metal/Pinpoint mode, there will be 2 lines on the bottom of the screen. When the 2 lines line up, you are exactly over the target.

Also, there is a feature called "VCO". This is a Multi-tonal feature that I LOVE when pinpointing. The pitch of the tone gets higher, not the volume. The Higher in pitch, the closer you are to the target and vice versa.

Hope this helps you out!

Re: Do whites unit's pinpoint?

I have the Prizm III and every time I have used the pinpoint mode it has been spot on. I have found that it was very useful as I am just starting out.

Re: Do whites unit's pinpoint?

All the whites detectors that I owned pin point well. I never had a Garrett so I cant't compare them. My specturim XLT and DFX have rachet pin pointing. It automaticly detunes the dectector when on target to make it easyer to pinpoint.
