do some people start threads about nonsense just to add to thier post count

why did my post get buried here it rocks

Here's a tip :icon_thumright:

Next time leave nonsense out of the title. Replace the word nonsense with "conflicting topics" then you should be good to go :laughing7:

Some pairs are like oranges...others are like grapefruits...then others yet are like melons...

The latter are hard to keep in a fruit bowl...

I once knew a gal that had the nicest pear that she grew herself...

Firm, well shaped and yummy...

Some people called them cans...

Oh, come on, we are talking about canning for winter use....

sure they do, do you realize how much money Tnet pays for high post count? Check the rules

I knew the magnificent couldn't resist.:occasion14:

did you see mark levin on cnn today?

Having a high post count is cool but only when accompanied by a high "LIKE" count.
That separates your posts from being just "Babble, babble, babble" and being an actual contribution.

Friends would say that I'm a very quiet person in real life.

Maybe I've another life on here :tongue3:

Those "likes" are conflicted for those of us that have been on this site long before the Forum Foundry took over. Speaking for myself I had over 9000 posts when that happened. Before that you couldn't leave "likes". So those "post numbers" compared to "like numbers" are swayed to say the least. Next!

Like this one?

First of all yes, I realize I'm responding to a 2013 thread so don't anyone call me out just to bump your post total...lol

I'm one of the "founding" members of this site, usually hop on every day and you'll notice my post count is pretty low comparatively speaking. Matter of fact, I'm not even sure what my post/like numbers are, never look at them (I will in a minute).

I will say this, many members including me find it quite comical when a new member joins and blazes away with babble. The objective is pretty obvious. Why though? Why are those numbers so important? I don't get it. Those folks add very little content and are quietly ignored by the majority of members, I see it all the time. Most of their posts are limited to "nice find" or "banner" but when they have something to say that adds value, the love just isn't there.

Personally, when I'm viewing threads/replies, I look at the avatars before choosing what I'm going to spend my time viewing. After several months of reading babble, I associate said babble with the avatar and I apply my brain's built in ignore feature. I vote that you sacrifice post numbers for good content. I mean, you're not getting paid or acknowledged for your effort and you're taking up web space.

Another observation, General Discussion Forum has turned into Facebook Lite...wtf?! I'd be ashamed of myself if I posted some of that crap in that Forum. I still view that crap for entertainment value though! I'm kinda like the NASCAR fan that says I don't watch anymore but contradicts himself at a later date and comments about how empty the stands were for the last race....lol.

I thought you got a prize for lots of 'likes'. Dang
Anyway, new people are eager to jump in with something on any forum.
I think the reason for a kind of FB mentality in some parts is because of a lack of content to contribute in regard to actual finds and such. Many of us are not yet uncovering vast riches and artifacts.
I admit to participating in posting of humorous stuff and nonsense for amusement. I also suffer from a love of writing. There is also a sense of near family here which leads to straying away from strict treasure hunting topics.
I also am learning so much here and sometimes I can contribute to a discussion.
I wonder how much more compact the forum would be if nothing was allowed unless it was on topic in terms of treasure hunting, methods, historical researh, and so on.
