.............like fine wine ?

I had purposely avoided a particular bank for a couple of months, even though they could get me as many boxes of halves that I wanted. The boxes just weren't producing, and the time I took looking through those, took me away from potentially productive boxes.

Well it was Saturday, I had nothing coming in until Monday; and 10 $100 bills 'burning a hole in my pocket".

So I stopped by this bank I had been avoiding and they had four boxes in the vault. Now, these were boxes that they had ordered before I stopping visiting them in October.........and were just sitting there gathering dust. Well, I had just the $1000 on me; so I bought two of the boxes.

The first was Box # 340 for the year; and (remember) it's been sitting in their vault since October. It held a 64p, 65, 66x2, 67x9, 68dx12, 69dx5 for a remarkable 30 keepers; or a 3.0% keeper rate !

The other box, #341, also there since October, had the same CWI # as the first, the same inspector and the same date. However, it only produced a 59d, 64d, 67 and an 05 proof (CuNi). Still four keepers, with two of them being 90%ers, but perhaps this box had sat a little too long; and was beginning to "turn". 8)

Cheers everyone !

Went back to the "winery" and what did I see ?
But two more boxes of halves, just waiting for me.

Did I wait too long, did I time it just right ?
We wouldn't know for sure, til I opened them that night.

The excitement mounted, as they'd been there a while.
Their stamp marks matched the others, and the results of those made me smile.

Let's open them up, drum roll if you please..........
# 344 was all but vinegar (I mean skunk), as it only had an '02d.

#345 had already completely turned, for their was nothing in their to keep.
But at least I now had my answers, and could get a good night's sleep.

Great score on the firs two boxes.
I can't search boxes in my home town of Carmel without a feeling inside that cries SKUNK. It's all about the bank that orders them for you. I think that their are many variables such as the carriers whom roll the coins, other competition in CRH, and of course the employees that have first dibs on the coin ( regardless weather it's fair or not ) that caused me to receive almost all skunk boxes here. when ever I go back to school, boxes are great again.
