Do ancient exstinct volcanos have gold?

Actually, gold has been found in volcanic areas. I don't remember the places for sure. I think one is in South Africa. I do know placer gold is often found with magnetite (black sand) and magnetite many times has gold crystals on it. I have samples here that you can see the gold attached to the black sand. Magnetite is of volcanic origin.

The volcano I am talking about is the one that the capital Jackson MS is directly on top of. Mississippi has NO gold at all and I was wanting to pan. Thought maybe I would have luck at this site.

Usually the gold is found in the surrounding "Contact Zone" not in the volcanic area itself. Doug.
