Dirt mounds in woods

Hi. I don't think I'm posting this in the right spot, but I'm not sure where to ask the question. I found multiple dirt mounds around what I think could be a cellar hole. However, I don't know if they are old. Also, in one picture when I was digging, I came up with dirt that looked like it could be part ash. Can someone help me date these pictures and tell me what they are? Thank you for your help?

My folks had rock piles around their garden where they prepped the land for plowing.
 

If you go around and in the area you think is a cellar hole you should get loads of iron signals. If no iron signals then maybe piles from mining operations. There are woods near me full of mounds, but I know it was an old coal mine area.
