Check this out. Went to my mom's Monday night. Decided to get up early to find somewhere to detect. Keep in mind, there was troop occupation the entire length of the war in my hometown. I went to a new development, asked the foreman for permission to hunt. He goes on to tell me that he can't "give me permission", but if I wanted to hunt he wouldn't say anything, but if the developers stopped by that he never talked to me.

He went on to tell me about some land down the road about 5 minutes away where they were building a couple homes on larger pieces of property anywhere from 20 acres to 300 acres. This is right off a main historic road that goes right to the river. There was constant troop movement to and from this area across the river so this place has great potential.

He told me that when they first broke ground, he let a couple of other guys detect there. They later showed him handfuls of buttons, bullets, and buckles. Whoa...now I was intrigued. The area where they found the stuff was now on an occupied piece of property. But he actually took me down there and showed me all of the other areas I could hunt and that the guy up the street, building a huge home on 300 acres, would probably let me hunt there too.

I'm practically jumping up and down by now and took off to hunt. I hunted a woodline by the main road, found some unidentifiable lead of different sorts and then got a broken tone that sounded interesting enough to dig. About five inches down I put my probe in the hole and got that beautiful solid tone and the numbers to tell me this was most likely a good chunk of civil war lead. Yep, out popped a three ringer. That was enough proof for me that I was in a good spot. Found some other modern lead and what may be a cannonball that I couldn't get to because it was beside a creek. Roundish iron about a foot down with treeroots in the way and water kept filling the hole. Didn't have patience for that one at the moment so I'll try and excavate it later.

My empty stomach got the best of me so I was only out there a couple hours and I had to help my mom with financial stuff the rest of the day so I couldn't get back out there. I'll definitely hit it again next week though. Great potential site.
