Hello All,

I found this in an old farm field today and have no idea what it is.

It reads WILLIAMSPORT on the outside and PRN in the middle ("williamsport" is where I live)

any idea what PRN stands for - and what the object is ?

it seems to be made of lead and is about the size of a dime (although twice as thick) - the back is completely smooth (no shank or evidence of a shank ever being on it if you are thinking button) it also looks like it was "punched out" of the material in which it was made, the edges aren't smooth and there is a rim on one side

any help is appreciated !

thanks -

vp

Looks exactly like a lead bag seal... or lead seal for??

PRN is a common acronym used by the USPS for "postal routed network" so maybe it was from a mailbag?

Kevin,

That is definitely a lead seal! Awesome job, buddy! That is probably from the early 1800s.
