I just started getting back into crhing a few days ago and just found this dime tonight:
20131220_212036.jpg20131220_212219.jpg20131220_212711.jpg

its like a thin piece of metal fell onto the dime when it got stamped, some of the leaves are even stamped on it. also on the front it looks like a "ring" is visible under liberty.

What would this be called? any value? either way i think its pretty neat.

That is a beautiful die crack. It is one of the most severe I have seen on a modern coin. There are some people that would pay pretty money for something like that. These would be error/variety specialist. I don't what it's worth to them, but it's more than face value.

Wow that does look like a severe clear crack. I'd be interested in knowing what a coin like that's is worth also. Nice find!

Very nice die crack. If you want to see one of the best FDR die cracks, search for Franken Dime. The die didn't crack, but was smashed. Very cool.

Note: I just tried searching for Franken Dime and didn't come up with any results. I thought I remembered the member referring to it as Franken Dime. Does anyone remember the member or the find in particular? The member might have been Numismaniac.

I remember Frankendime, I think it was one word. Nice die crack there.

Very nice find! Were you roll hunting going through the coins one by one? Would love to hear the story on it.

thanks guys glad to find something nice since i havent had any silver lately lol. I just picked up 4 rolls each of quarters, dimes, and nickels on my way home yesterday and looked thru them. Ive never bought a box before but im thinking about getting one soon to try my luck. But i usually just rim check first then quickly go thru each coin, flipping it to check for rotated reverse or anything that catches my eye.

That is a beautiful error, I don't like searching for errors because it is cumbersome but I would love to find a specimen such as the one you posted. Thanks for sharing. This makes me reconsider edge searching my dimes, haha.

When I first started doing this I would look at every single coin with a loupe, and it took forever but I was afraid I would miss something lol.I took a break for a while but just started again and I usually only get 70$ worth of coins at a time so I rim check first then I'll quickly look at each one and if something catches my eye I'll put it to the side. Any suggestions on how to store good find like this? I usually just put all my keepers in asmall Tupperware container, but I have this one by itself in a zip loc bag right now.

It sure is an interesting cool looking coin. Im not sure how much the coin is worth but if someone is willing to offer u that much so quickly maybe u might get more than $20 by the time the auction ends. Good luck.

Yeah it's up to $11.50 right now only been about 12 hours :-) 6 days to go I'll post the results once it's over!

I think you will easily pass $20. I sold a Jefferson with a large die break (cud) on Ebay for $59. It would be nice if you had a 2"x2" coin holder for it.

So I didn't ended up selling it last time because I was going to get it graded first, but I couldnt find a good place to get it done so I listed it again there's less than 24 hrs left if anyone's interested :-)

I was wondering what happened to it; looks like you will clean up nicely on your 10 cent investment. Good job!!!!

I don't think you can promote your auctions on here unless you are a charter member.

ATTA BOY!!!!!!!!

Nice return on that coin, huh? I have yet to find anything like that in circulation yet! Keep it coming, good luck, and happy hunting!
