That's plain ol' wear and tear i'm afraid. Any reason you photographed it with the backdrop of older coins?
 

i'm not sure, if the entire edge is worn, then how come the face show similar wear- additionally, the reeding would be gone by then, but it is still surprising sharp. Also, the top-right side on the obverse is sharp and corresponds to a similar sharpness on the bottom-left of the reverse.

I just shot it with some other coins because i thought it would be more interesting than my bedsheets ::)

It really is not wear and tear, but I am not sure what the official term is for that type of strike, but they are relatively common, I have seen quite a few like that.
