Digital camera question

I use a Canon powershot A 750. it's got a 4x optical zoom w/7.1 megapixels.
whatever you buy, get the new lithiom batteries and a bigger card to go with it.
hope this helps.

I got myself a samsung S850 8.1mp 5x zoom 2.5in LCD monitor and has a macro setting for taking ultra close up shots(bugs,coins,etc.). I am still learning how to use it properly with all the settings and such will take some time but i love it,it also comes with a photo shop/editing program that has tons of tools so you can manipulate, crop, resize and so much more.
no matter what one you get make sure it has the macro setting on it,thats how you can take really close up pics....but i would suggest no getting a kodak easyshare type, this was the 1st one i bought but the macro setting wont get you as close up as most of the coin pics you see here...i ended up returning it to get the samsung<<<wow what a diffrence it made.

i paid $200 for mine

If your camera doesn't have a macro setting try the following. Put a magnifying glass on the camera lens, move camera back and forth until you get a clear view and take a picture. Saw this method posted here quite a while back. It works but its a little clumsy.

Thanks for the replies and tips. Gets me going in the right direction...now I know what macro is too. Don't know much about cameras but I'm sure I can find it here. The info on this sight (all of TNet) is amazing and overwhelming. I'm not too much of a figure -it -out- yourself tech person. There sure is a lot of expertise on these pages. Kind of humbling in a way. ;D

Thanks,

I'm not sure if you've already picked one up, but thought I'd post anyway just in case :)

The Canon PowerShot A560 is nice for closeup find pics...it can auto focus at about 2 inches from the target, manual focus at about 4. Most others will need to be quite a lot further away. It sucks when you get home and all your find pics are blurry blobs ::) because you didn't have the camera held far enough away from your best ever coin.

A review etc: http://www.epinions.com/content_339073142404

They're about 115.00 used on Amazon, 309.22 new

I just added the same Samsung to my collection - it seems like a really "hefty" little camera. (the digitals don't seem to hold up as well as regular cameras - but I'm rough on cameras)

So far, its held up to everything I've thrown at it (including being thrown in a bag with 6 or 7 other regular cameras)
