Digging Tool

I've been using the Lesche Digging tool for about a year now. Getting ready to add a shovel to the toolbox, but I'm conflicted on which to buy. So what do you use, and why?
Lesche T-handle digger. It is awesome and saves a lot of digging time. I used the same lesche you have for about a year and now I have the t-handle. I still use the small digger for shallow and fine digging.

what kind of ground are you digging in. Nice soft stuff or hard rocky clay etc..

Sorry. Should've been clear on that. It's hard clay soil.

I`v been using this Leache now for 20 years sharpen many times it now measures 30" but don`t know what size it was to start,i can say they are Tuff...time to sharpen it again.

I think that blade is a bit overkill for coins averaging at 6 inches.

I got one of these at Home Depot for $10
Hey, its $10, and its bigger than a trowel and small enough to carry easily.
If it breaks some day...I'll buy another.

I have the same, works fine and is easier on the pocketbook also easy to pack it in if going out with a backpack, in the parks I just use a stainless trowel I picked up at orchard supply.

Are you going to use it in a park??? I have one of the Ames also and really like it!

Agreed, ive used many many different types to find the right 1 that suits my needs in where i go, the lesche is a very good tool cuts roots nicely, makes a nice cut in the grass for a smooth plug, as shovel i had an awesome 18" samson could bring it anywhere very strong smaller then a big shovel, but had the power with no issues,
This time around i went over to sask hunter because the lesche tools, samsons, ravens, predators, all very good, but they all look the Same its just who do you buy it from, & thats y I chose sask because Same quality if not better because he is hand making each and everyone no machine pressing a,mold ect, also has about 10 different models, any size that you think would be best & you can ask him to paint it with your own color scheme to make it custom

I remember seeing a video where a guy took one of those $10 Ames shovels and cut off the sides, ground teeth into the sides and then sharpened them with an angle grinder. Looked like it would do the same job as any pro MD digger. Think I will try it this Spring.

Like this.. minus the teeth.. works great not sure about Hard clay the OP has, but can be ground to a point with a flap wheel.

airscapes, I did the same thing to my $10 Tractor Supply shovel that I bought before I got my Predator Little Eagle. I just used my bench grinder and in about 45 mins I had narrowed the blade and it works really well. Of course no teeth but most of my recovery is in farm fields so they're not really needed. Cuts a nice plug, has a pretty sturdy handle and blade attachment, and did I mention it was $10? Lol! Will be doing some MD'ing in and around pine woods very soon so teeth may be necessary. Pine trees have tons of little near surface roots and as we all know, the best targets are just under them!! Ha!

The Predator Model 31 digs like a shovel and doesn't draw as much attention in public areas. It removes a good amount of dirt each with each scoop for deeper targets quickly. They make really good shovels also. They are expensive, but the best built digging tools in the industry. They're made out of quality heat treated chromoly steel by George Lesche and come with a 5 year warranty. http://predatortools.com/item_details.asp?ID=2
