Thought I would get a few hours in today, since it was supposed rain I thought I would stick close to home. I decided to search in a church yard that I had been to before and concentrate on a picnic area there that I was always reluctant to detect at because of all the trash. I lowered the discrimination and just decided to dig everything, the first hour or so, nothing but pull tabs and a couple modern pennies and clad. Then I got a signal, dug it and another pull tab checked the hole again and another one, checked the hole again, still a signal, dug down a little more and out came the 1914-D and the 1911-D dime!! About 5 feet away was the 1907 quarter, also masked by pull tabs. Also found my first "3 Merry Widows" tin and a 1935 wheatie with a spot of original color on it from the day it was lost. Apparently other people have also passed this area up because of the trash too. Only got about 4 hours in today before the rains set in, but definitely going back here again and finish searching the picnic area!!

HH,John!

Very cool! I'll have to take a page from your book and be persistent!

Nice barbers!!

nice haul!!

pjduff,

Thumbs up for your persistence......kind of ironic that you found the merry widows tin at a church picnic site...lol.

A little story for you....most of my sites are trashy urban green spaces, parks, sports fields and school yards.....there's an old school yard circa 1920's that was littered with junk which I kept hitting over and over again....those pull tab type signals netted me 3 gold rings and 1 gold pendant for my troubles.

Thanks Bill!! I've been detecting for quite a few years now, but usually I was one that when I would come to a really trashy area I would skip it comepletely, or turn the disc all the way up and only dig the surface clad. Now that I'm older I have a little more time on my hands and I decided to change tactics. Glad I did, cause this has been my best year detecting yet!! (Plus you save up enough of those pull tabs, even they're worth some money!!) :unhappysmiley:

Honestly the trash to silver ratio in the picture seemed pretty good all in n all, you should see how much trash i gotta sift to get just 1 silver ;)
Glad the new tactics are working for ya!! Keep it up

~~HH
