So my house was once part of a pretty old area of Atlanta. I have started to find some 1930s era bottles and wanted to know any good ways to dig these things up without making a big mess or breaking any. It looks like an area that was behind the old garage. Thanks.

Sometimes, The inevitable happens and they break. When your speaking of avoiding a big mess, can you please elaborate? How deep are the bottles? Are they surface riders? Given that your in a warmer environment, warmer being the operative word, I generally take a bunch of old socks and put the bottles in them, one per sock. I hope this helps. By the way, do you have any pictures of the bottles?

Thanks guys. So far, just a little perfume bottle, a condom tin from the 1930s and a milk of magnesia bottle from the 40s. (Maybe all from one night? Lol) Lots of big chunks of square edged bottles as well. Let the mess begin followed by my wife yelling at me for digging up the yard again ;)
