Does anyone know what these half horse shoes were used for? We going them everywhere, I’ll post more pictures soon when my iPad charges.

The "half horse shoes" at the bottom left of your picture are oxen shoes. They are cool finds, and are usually pretty old, I found and have seen them found in areas near where other 1700's artifacts have been recovered. Good luck digging that old house!

Those ox shoes are a good sign....
could be some old goodies there
I'd keep after that place
good luck and good finds

All the above TNet members are correct - ox shoes. Oxen were much more commonly used as draft animals than horses or mules here in New England and many of us detecorists here who dig iron signals find them frequently.

BTW - If any of you recall, the "expert" detectorist who was assisting on Oak Island improperly identified an ox shoe as a horse shoe last season or the season before. I can't believe the editors would let such an obvious error slip by. My wife thought I over-reacted (who,me?) but come on...

We found a high sandy spot that preserves relics very nicely, check out the square nail’s condition. From what we can ascertain, it was the sight of the barn.

Every time when I look in the mirror
All these lines on my face getting clearer
The past is gone
It went by, like dusk to dawn
Isn't that the way
Everybody's got the dues in life to pay

It was dug, by the land owner. I’ll see if I can post the rest of the pix I took.

Nice finds. I like the oxen shoes. I have found quite a few of them. I think oxen have a cloven/split hoof and that's the reason for the split shoe.

In about 1978 my Father in law in Asheville purchased these as a Christmas gift for my father. They are new unused #2 oxen shoes. The ox was like the Caterpillar D-10 of the day. Slow and extremely powerful they were used for puling heavy cargo, pulling stumps and achieving tasks inconceivable by other draft animals.

Good hunting!
