Differences between minelabs

Hi everyone! When i was looking on ebay for detectors i found among others a minelab sovereign elite. So im wondering what the difference is between that detector and for example the sovereign GT that i have got the impression is the best in the sovereign series. So wich of these is the better one and why?
Another detector that seemed interesting was an minelab explorer. So the question here is: what is the difference between this detector and the explorer II?
Would be glad with some answers and/or if possible link with info on all the minelabs
Thanks// ohannos

I have not used the machines that you mentioned, but it might be worth your while to check out the X-Terra 70. Much easier to learn and fantastic working detectors. The Minelab SE is the top of the line detector, but the 70 goes almost as deep, costs less, weighs less than 3 pounds and the 4 AA batteries last forever. Just food for thought. Look carefully before you buy. Whichever machine you get, I'm sure it will work well for you. Minelab makes great detectors.

Good hunting, John K

I don't have the answer for the difference between the different incarnations of the Sovereign, but I can answer your Explorer question: The original Explorer suffered some criticism because of a hardware bug: The shaft, where it comes out of the box, would break after some use/stress. The Explorer II had an improved stronger junction point for that stress-spot. The II also added some whistles and bells, like better font or graphics on the display, etc... But basically just whistles and bells. No improved depth or basic detecting sounds, characteristics, etc.. Mostly a matter of rod improvement.

Thank you Rifleman on your thought about the x terra 70. It is still the detector i want to have the most at the moment. Im looking on used detectors at the moment but since im living in sweden i dont have to many to choose from. Im looking for detectors within europe because i dont have to pay tax, etc, then. If the x terra 70 comes up i will take it!

Thank you Tom_in CA for making me smarter on the explorer subject. There is so much wonderful people helping out at this site. Time for bed so good night!

as far a picking out a machine you should mention on what your looking for an were you will be hunting, some machines do a better job in certain places.I use the Elite an very happy with my finds, most at the beach, got hands full of gold an silver an well over 8,000 coins in first 2 years. The GT is suppose to be a step up from the Elite but I have no reason to do that, they use the same coil, meter, etc.
