Didn't think this was so popular

I just ordered my MD and thought hey I'll take this up it looks like fun. Then I found this forum and y'all talk about places being picked over and stuff. I've NEVER seen anyone with a metal detector. My eyes will probably be more open to it now, but I've just never seen anyone doing it. Is it really that popular? Perhaps it's more of a regional thing and here in Alabama it's not that popular.

You know....you're right.....I really don't recall seeing anyone around here either. When I lived in the city my neighbor had one, but he never used it. I remember trying it out, but I didn't know what I was doing. (That was long before I found this site!)...(Still don't know what I am doing, but getting better!) I found a cousin this past weekend that has one though. Maybe they are all at the beach! HAHA! :D

I usually hunt around 5 a.m. and see others doing the same. Sometimes I go just before dark and see others too. Come to think of it, I don't think I've seen anyone detecting during the day. Maybe most others hunt in the early morning or evening. I find it better cause it's less people to deal with, starring at you or asking the same question over and over. HH

I know that there are T.H. around here.....I have talked to some 7 or 8 at least in 10 years.....but in those 10 years I only remember 2 occasions seeing someone M.D.

Re: Didn't think this was so popular

In all my times out since I started last Nov, I've only run onto 2 other hunters. Once at a local beach, I saw the guy at the other end, but our paths never came close enough to chat. The second time was about 3 weeks ago, my buddy and I were just packing up the gear in the trunk after hunting around an old mill site, when out of nowhere comes another Garrett owner. He came right up, introduced himself, and we shot the @#$ for a while. He gave us a quick demo of his GTI1500 (sweet machine), and I let him check out my ACE250, as he told me he had heard all the raves about the ACE. Really nice guy, he pointed us to some more spots around the general area of the mill. Wish I had gotten his name, probably could have learned some stuff from him.

I guess thats like saying you never see any blue jays ... But you know their out there.
I can tell some of the spots I hit, typically afternoon/evening ... Have been picked over.
I can't say I've seen many here in the Detroit Michigan area, but theres gotta be a bunch of them or else the wood chip parks
would be loaded up with quarters and rings, which they ain't.

cOME ON GUYS, WERE EVERYWHERE. By the way, I have found silver about 3 blocks from the White's factory. Nothing is ever cleaned out.
