Went to an estate sale today and I think I did ok at $12 each for the clowns and $1 for the book. The clowns are murano glass. I am debating whether to list the clowns separately or as a lot of 4. Maybe get more separately. Any thoughts? separate or a lot?
Thanks.

Why not do some research and see if you can do 2 lots? male and female in each lot or 2 males or females in each lot?

I'd list them separately myself, after I made sure they were genuine Murano. The Chinese imports are widespread in this area of collectible glass.

ps-I like the book, I'm a big Zane Grey Fan.

I would list the clowns separately also. Include in your listing a statement that you have other glass clowns for sale (provide a link to your listings) and that you will combine shipping if they buy more than one.

How can you tell if an item is Murano glass?

marble collectors like those....if you put the keyword marbles in your listing, many marble collectors would see it....

The devil is in the details. Quality of work being the number one factor. I'd say most of the clowns on ebay are not actually made in Murano but rather Mexico, China and even Russia. Regardless of what the label says. I tend to avoid them because of the amount on repros out there. Unless it's a signed piece, which is rare with clowns, I would avoid them. I personally think the op's were made in Mexico and that he paid about retail for them unfortunately. Here is a strikingly similar one playing the accordion- Murano Glass Clown with Accordion Made in Italy Tag on Clown | eBay
The one next to it appears to be missing something from his hands-

When did Mexico start doing repros? These were from a horders house estate sale who was big into clowns. These were wrapped in moldy, covered in mice crap news paper from the 80s and appear legit not repros I am hoping.

I hope i'm wrong and I may very well be. I am not an expert, just giving my opinion. That's why I tend to stay away from a lot Murano glass. It just looks like clowns very similar to yours are selling, or have already sold rather, for close to or less than what you paid for them.

I welcome your opinion, I just never bought this kind of item before. They looked good. I saw this label on one, is this a good sign or you think fake labels are just as common? 20131201_224825.webp

That is a good sign. Labels are faked but I don't think that one would be. That is a Jordan Import Co. label. They were importers of mostly lower quality Murano glass that was usually sold in Gift shops and department stores in the 40's thru the 60's at least. They may or may not have made some of their own glass. The subject is still up for debate. Read this thread- J.I. Co label in Murano101 - new info Let us know how these do for you. I really hope you make a good profit on them.

This is 100% true! & yes list them separately!

Mexico has been doing glass "repros" since at least the 80's. I see tons of older Mexican Murano looking glass at auctions. Way more than I see the real stuff & no matter what they call it Murano. Mexico (or rather South America) made repro glass Aladdin Lincoln drape lamps in the early 70's with repro burners which is a lot more work than just glass work. Tho even some of those 70's repro lamps have value.

Good advise & info there, I only buy Murano glass that I KNOW is Murano glass!

The label looks good on that piece & probably was a label that was never faked but you never know. Do a search & you can buy just labels for almost anything or at least you could a few years ago. There is a huge market for left over labels or even repop labels for many many of items.
