I found this small silver buckle in an area just south of Vicksburg, MS. It's an inch in diameter and I'm puzzled what it could have gone to or what was it's function. I noticed similar looking items that are identified as indian trade items and wanted to post this picture and get feedback. Any help would be appreciated. silver buckle.121016.jpg

That is a silver "ring brooch". Very nice fur trade era find!

Thanks for the i.d. help on this piece. Now that I've looked up Ring Brooch on the internet I can see that is exactly what it is.....The Spanish and British had colonized the Vicksburg area and the French had a fort north of the city. Lots of reasons to trade with local natives during those time periods.

The alliance between the French, English and Spanish and the local Indian Tribes proved vital to their existence and the Fort you described is evidence of that...what a wonderful piece of History you have found! :occasion14:
