Indeed you did! Congrats! I coated mine with my wife's hairspray. It has protected it from flaking for 4 or 5 years now.

Yes, you did. WARNING! These things fall apart very easily. I'd coat it with either a spray of flat polyurethane after it's totally dry or several coats of Elmer's glue thinned with water. It WILL fall apart to some extent if you don't. VERY nice find.

I'd use clear lacquer and paint it on. Thick on the sides and back... the front I'd dab to make a thin coat. Dab not wipe... wiping could catch and create edge loss.
