Only found 40 Pre 1960s, good enough for a roll, but no wars, or buffs, and it took me a good 3 hours to search those stupid brinks shrink wrapped garbage... :laughing7: I mean it was fun and all, but i doubt ill ever do one again. do you guys usually get war nicks or atleast a buff?

40 pre 1960 is above average, I average 28-32 per box. Mylast 3 boxes have not produced a war nickel or a buffalo ???

Before in late 2010, I averaged a buffalo nickel and a war nickel per box...

Nickels for me have slowed down dramatically for some reason... Don't give up, keep at it, you'll get a score eventually!

I have done 5 nickel boxes and I have only found 4 war nickels and no buffs.......Matt

I used to do nickels and when I did, my average was 1 war per box. I only found 2 buffs in all the boxes I did which was around 50. I was holding out anything older than 1960 until I realized I had 100's of them and thought, "why am I holding these out? If they will ever carry a premium, it will be long after I am gone." I started looking at reverse sides only for the mint mark above the dome. Even the 1950D does not have much of a premium, so looking at the dates was a waste of my time after I filled my book. I did find more foreign coins in nickels than any other denomination though, which made it interesting.

I find the war nickel more often than buffalos. One per box sounds about right, perhaps 3 in 2 boxes/bags.

I've only searched 4 boxes of nickels, but I got 2 war nickels and a Buffalo. I usually get less than you in pre-1960s, about 25 per box, so you did well.

Like Mental Unrest, I'm starting to question why I am saving everything pre-1960. I may dial it back to pre-1956, or even pre-1951 (I've yet to see a 1950-D anywhere other than in a coin shop, but I'm still hoping to find one). There were simply too many made for them to have any premium whatsoever...UNLESS you sell them on Ebay. However, with all of the fees that they and Paypal charge, I'm not sure that its worth it any more, not unless you have a lot of rolls that you can sell for $4 or more each. Nonetheless, I don't have so many that I'm dumping them yet. Maybe when I go through a few dozen boxes.

Note that I am saving the 2009 nickels (I get almost all Ds), as that is the rarest regular issue since the mid-1950s. I didn't see one of them in change (still haven't) though I've gotten over 100 since I started getting boxes.
