Can we have something for size?

Yes, and while you're at it, could we also have something for size?

When my dad did historical renactments ( Civil War then later French & Indian War ) he had a set of lead dice. They were smaller that the dice you buy today, because the smaller size were easier for the men to carry.

JG, Almost laughed myself into fits!! Lowtones, what does it seem to be made of? It does look like a dye, but the spots are usually concave, aren't they? Cool find anyway!!! Great Hunting and Good Luck!! Regards, Richard.

Here are pics of replica lead Colonial Dice that my Dad picked up at some historic site in 1976.
According to this, the size would be right. But it says the soldiers made them by pounding lead into irregular square shapes and etched the holes with bayonet points.

How much does it weigh?
Might be a balance weight - albeit unusual shape :icon_scratch:

Mike, That was my first thought also! BigCy, that's what I thought! If it's a dye, then you should be able to feel where the spots were, even if the spot itself is gone. Regards, Richard.

My guess would also be a weight for a balance or scale. Although the scientific ones have tops to them so you could use tweezers to move them. Finger oils gather and throw off the precision. This may have been for one that was less precise. Have a jeweler weigh it to see if it is close to a rounded value.
