I know many people have been fed bad info about Long Range Locators, but the LRL's can be used to help find a lost diamond. Problem is once you have a suspected area where it is (usually within a couple feet), you will probably need to sift the ground, wash it, and pan it. It will take a lot of time to learn LRL's, unless you know someone who knows. So if it is a $100 value, forget it.
