I recently purchased a slightly used DFX E-series. If you could have 1 extra coil besides the standard 950, what would you get? This is for general coin and jewelry hunting etc. I have pretty mineralized soil here in Northern Minnesota. Would also like to try it on our freshwater beaches. Any suggestions is greatly appreciated! HH

For me, it's the 4 x 6 shooter coil. Very good in areas that have lots of iron trash...like nails around burned buildings.

me it was 8 by 14 it will find stuff the other coils pass over and it's not that heavy there one on e bay right know

See that opinions are like noses.... every one has one... anyhow it all depends on where you plan to hunt and what you plan to look for. If you plan in using the detector in high trash area, than a DD coil will work out for you, but depending on what you are looking for the size also matters. It's not just that bigger will find you deeper stuff (even if true) but if you look for small stuff, smaller coils will be more sensitive. Also if you work in a high EMI area, DD will be better (all but the d2 that is actually worse), than a concentric, but if you like to detect at the beach than the concentric coil will work better with wet sand conditions...
So it's a bit difficult to tell you what coil to get unless you tell us what you plan to hunt for, and where....

Like noses.... I've never heard of it put that way. Lol. ().()

Well it's a public forum... I needed something polite...

Lol guys! I usually hunt parks, old churches, school grounds, picnic areas. So the places I hunt are usually somewhat trashy. I have an XLT that I have been hunting with, but was hoping for a little more depth with a DFX. My ground is fairly mineralized. I'm pretty sure a DFX has a slower sweep speed than an XLT, so any advise on that is appreciated! Probably gonna get another coil for the DFX to gain depth, but wondering if a Mid sze DD would be better than the stock DFX coil?? Let me know your suggestions! Thanks!

Ok in your condition, the best coil I could suggest is the eclipse 10x6, if not too trashy than the d2.

Is the 6x10 eclipse better in trashy areas than the stick 950? Or maybe a 5.3 concentric? What is the D2's strengths? DD butterfly?

The 10x6 dd eclipse is much better than the stock coil in trashy areas, the 5.3 is even better but since it's quite small it does take a long time to cover the area...the d2 has good separation and great depth. Never had a dd butterfly (I assume you meant the sef coils).

Yeah I meant SEF butterfly, sorry, thanks for all your information! HH

Another question, is the stock multiple harmonic coil on the older DFX's the same as the newer 950 that came on the newer DFX's? Is one better than the other? Thanks!

For trashy areas I would suggest the 6x8, 4x6 or the 6 inch excelerator. The 6 inch excelerator does better than the 5.3 for getting around trash.
