I have a DFX about 5 years old...... I seem to be having problems with it.

I made a test board with a quarter, nickle, dime, penney.

about 15 inches apart.

My bounty Hunter picks them up clear as a bell up to about 5 inches.
all clear repeating tones with correct indications of what they are.

When I do it with my DFX I get really whacky signals. not repeating, showing different things each pass. sometimes its right, sometimes its way off. sometimes I get nothing......although I do get more depth... about 8-10 inches, I tried all the preset programs and a couple I played around with.... nothing consistant at all.

I just started using it again after a 2 year lay off.....long story...

Do I need to reset it some how?

battery reads 10.5

using original 950 coil with guard in place

I read somewhere to pull out the battery while its on for a minute or two... the restart it.....

I don't trust it or like it very much right now....

something is not right.

HELP!!!!!!!!!! LOL

any ideas?
thanks,
Ralph

You might put new batteries in or make sure they are charged if you got the rechargable pack if they been in there since the last time you used it they could be dropping lower after being turned on, I believe it only shows when you first start it up. If the batteries are ok then you could try pulling the batteries while leaving the machine on the put them back in a minute later to see if it clears it up, also do you have another coil to try on the detector to eliminate the possibility of it being a bad coil. If that doesn't work you may need to send it to White's for a check up, good luck hope you get it working.

My DFX does that when I get too much dirt in my coil cover. As a result I now clean out my coil cover after about every 3 trips out. Check your coil for cracks. Also a good idea may be to take it to a dealer and have them attatch a different coil to it just to see if it is the box or the coil. GL.
