Hi there,

I also posted this same message in the whites forum. I hope it is not considered rude of me to do so?

I am intending on upgrading to the whites dfx in the next week or so and was a little overwhelmed at the number of search coils that are available for the unit. I am considering ordering the excellerator II 12.5" dd as well as the 5" dd excellerator. Together they will cost me around $250 if i buy them when i get the detector. Is this a good choice for me? i do mostly lawns, homesites, schoolyards etc. mAybe i will do the occasional beach run. just looking for a little input from you experienced folks on the subject. if there is a better alternative for me close to the $250 mark I would appreciate your advice.

thanks
JT

This will be of little help. Being that i'm still learning my new dfx and have no experience with the excellerator coils.
But i've had those size coils on past machines, and both have proved useful in the proper application. The smaller one being better in trashy areas as well as side walk grass strips. And the larger for older and less trash areas as well as for beach hunting with little discrimination for maximum depth.
Depending on what the experienced dfx users say, i might go with those also. HH

Hi Jt.

I use the 14" Excellerator as well as the 5". I just started hunting this year and like you bought the coild at the same time as my DFX due to the price break. I have had success with the 5" so far this year and as I am mostly hunting old meeting places and foundations / celler holes there is a lot of trash to get around and the 5" does a great job with that. I have also scored some clad with the 14" but bought it mainly to hunt a few plowed fields this fall, my regular hunts are way too trashy for it. IMO you can't really go wrong if you are getting them with your detector, they were a good investment to me.
