Just sent off payment for a DFX. Started hunting 37 years ago with a Sears Ted Williams (White's Coinmaster) and upgraded to a Classic III in 2002. I always wanted a top of the line machine but I've always done real well with what I have. However, I dug a lot of zinc pennies and bottle caps, but that's normall with a single tone, non-visual discriminating machine. I picked up a Radio Shack Discovery 2000 a few months ago for $25 bucks and fell in love with Tone I.D. and the notch discrimination. I've dug less targets but the value of my finds has greatly increased. If the Classic III had these features I'd still be swinging it. I found a 2 year old DFX online at a great price and called about it. Talked to a nice older gentleman, who can't hunt much anymore, and said he would rather sell it to someone who could use it than let it collect dust. My wife thinks I'm crazy for buying something, sight unseen, from a stranger, half-way across the country. I hope my gut is right and that this is a square deal. I feel better about this than if I were buying a used one off an eBay store that just resales stuff and has no interest in metal detecting. My faith in the good people who treasue hunt, and their code of conduct, helps ease the reservations of making such a purchase. Hopefully, everything works out. So, in the mean time, I've downloaded the owner's manual and will be reading up till it arrives.
